Bi is all too often no better than looking into a rear-view mirror. Sometimes fleeting glances of passing landscape, other times a clear view of potential danger. But too often the view is incomplete just like many BI systems which analyse just structured data. The majority of data is unstructured and yet important. Why do so many fraudsters get away with multiple claims for whiplash?- because insurance companies usually cannot link disparate data on standardised claims forms and analyse. So they pay out and for every fraudulent claim they reject twice as many get accepted
◾Only a few elite teams will take the leap from BI to systems of insight. Only a few BI teams are taking baby steps toward agile BI, and Forrester expects that in 2016, less than a third of these will be ready to make the leap to systems of insight. Why? Because BI and big data are firmly rooted in the technology while business executives impatiently await results. We see better business outcomes in organizations that merge BI and customer insights teams.
