Back in April I described a world-class combination of analytics platforms that make purpose built & embedded analytics viable for all enterprises.
Now that MicroFocus intends to acquire HPE's Vertica and IDOL big data software they should get the focus and continued investment they deserve.
Given that competent enterprises rarely access more that 30% of data, and many as little as 10%, it is crucial to have unstructured data analytics solutions like IDOL in addition to the usual structured data analytics.
Note, however, that both Vertica and IDOL need a visualisation and analytics platform to yield the value. And Butler, Gartner and other analysts all state that unless this is embedded in enterprise apps you severely limit the value and ROI by limiting yourself to standalone analytics and visualisations
HPE plans to contribute the following software assets to the transaction: Application Delivery Management, Big Data, Enterprise Security, Information Management & Governance and IT Operations Management. Notably, many of these these assets were acquired by pre-spit Hewlett-Packard through the controversial acquisition of Autonomy in 2011
