Predictive analytics, if perfect, would do away for armies of planners and analysts as data scientists perfect algorithms to anticipate the future. Yet humans will always be needed- just fewer of them.
The deployment of effective self-service BI will add opportunities to combine the unique human attributes with data driven decision making:-
- Empathy
- Creativity
- Judgement
- Critical Thinking
Combining these talents with SELF-SERVICE ANALYTICS can lead to better and devolved decision-making. This means less reliance on centralised analysts with little knowledge of the "front-line" and imperfect hypotheses. Instead more reliance of those dealing with customers, patients, stakeholders and all those in the supply chain.
So the nature of jobs will change and training and education must adapt to the new reality.
, increased productivity, better service and increased productivity
“Humans will also always be needed to make supervisory and exceptional decisions”, said Chew Ek Peng, associate professor of industrial and systems engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He highlighted the example of how an automated guided vehicle (AGV) system deployed in the Rotterdam port faces deadlocks from time to time. When AGVs end up blocking one another because of sequencing priority, humans have to step in to resolve the situation.
